Rotary Cutter Attachment Usage Guide

 

Rotary cutters, sometimes referred to as bush hogs or brush hogs, are designed to cut through dense vegetation with ease. Of course, you won’t get far with your rotary cutter attachment if you don’t know how to work it properly. That’s why the experts at Granbury Tractor have created this guide to using your rotary cutter attachment. 

 

Getting Started

First, find a good starting position. Leveling your rotary cutter attachment will be much easier if you do it on a flat slab of concrete or asphalt. As you level, set the front blades slightly lower than the rear blades by ½ of an inch to 1 inch. With this setup, the front blades will do the cutting without dragging the rear blades through the vegetation. 

 

Attaching the Rotary Cutter to Your Tractor

Once you’ve leveled the rotary cutter attachment, slowly back your tractor up and get ready to attach everything together. Be sure to align the three-point hitch arms on the back of your tractor to the three-point rod connectors on the cutter and lock the lever to “position control.” Then, put the tractor in first gear, cut the engine, and chock your tractor’s rear wheels. Slide the three-point hitch arms into place and insert the retaining pin for the left, right, and center hitch arms. 

Finally, hook up the end of the rotary cutter drive shaft to the tractor’s PTO by pushing the splines together and pulling the lock collar back. Use the three-point hitch’s center turnbuckle to adjust the angle of the cutter’s blades, then adjust the right turnbuckle until the skids are two inches off the ground on both sides. Finish up by tightening up the anti-sway bars, and you’re ready to start cutting!
